Universal Gun cleaning kit questions...
Hey all,
I am looking for a universal gun cleaning kit that can be used on rifles, pistols and shotguns. Would prefer brass or aluminum rods and in a decent case.
I have a Bore snake and some cleaning solvents right now, but thinking about the future... and an evil black rifle I am planning to build.
Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks,
Steve

Only one kit for all calibers?
I have one "kit" for each caliber......."The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil but, because of the people who do nothing about them."

Re: Universal Gun cleaning kit questions...
Not necessarily ALL calibers, mainly the most popular. I currently only have a 9mm XD, but plan on a 12 ga shotgun and a 5.56/.223 AR-15 in the future.
I have looked at several "kits", that have interchangeable tips, but if it is better to get one specific kit for each caliber, I am open to hear that too. I just thought it would be simpler to have everything in one case?

I think i saw what you're looking for at Gander MTN in Washinton last night but didn't notice the price.

Re: Universal Gun cleaning kit questions...
I have to recommend Otis every chance I get. 2 patches and one cable works for every caliber you own, or will own. There is a thread adaptor in the kit to allow you to use common bore brushes along with the cable. Follow the instructions carefully, you may have to think a little if you're using for not so common calibers. You may have some patches fall off or get stuck in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, you'll see how conveneient it is. Comes in small enough cases. Keep straight rods handy, just in case the aforementioned loose/stuck patches happens.

It's gonna be hard to go from .22 cal to 12 gauge and do a nice job.
Get some decent Dewey rods and then the right bore mops and brushes. The Dewey won't wear out or scratch the bores. For quick cleans boresnakes are all you need.

If you have a kit, you will see how you can go from a .22 to a 12GA. There are different attachments to the flex rod for this transition.
Each patch allows you to use it at least 3 times.
