The nation’s two largest home improvement stores, Lowe’s and Home Depot, are again offering a 10-percent military discount for Memorial Day, starting Thursday.
Active-duty personnel, National Guard and reserve members, retirees, honorably discharged veterans and immediate family members of all those groups are eligible. Customers who request the discount should show a valid military ID card or other proof of service.
The stores differ in their offers:
• Lowe’s discount is offered from Thursday through May 25 on purchases up to $5,000. That means the maximum discount will be $500. The offer is good for in-store purchases only and it does not apply to online sales, previous sales, purchase of services or gift cards.
• The Home Depot’s discount is offered in stores from Thursday through May 27 on purchases up to $2,000, for a $200 maximum discount

Stores will generally give 10% at the drop of a dime to get a sale.
I would ask for it anytime I had more than $100 of stuff or say you'll head to HD/Lowes depending on where you are.

They used to do this every day, but my local Home Depot only does it on holidays and sale days now. Same with Lowes.

Re: Home Depot and Lowes give a 10% Discount to all Service Men & Women for Memorial
As a society we simply don't ask about discounts any more.
Its common in almost every part of the world to ask to make a better deal.
When I was shopping for Plasma TVs for x-mas my standard question was 'if I but the t.v. stand will you take 10% off both?'. I figure $1500 for a t.v and $250 for a stand they could give back $175 and still keep the lights on. T.V. stands have gotta have wicked mark ups.
They all said no except for the one store that I bought the t.v. from.
Paying retail is for suckers!
