Wife's funny election day story (long)

First, I'll give a little background. We live one town over from Dickson City. I never thought about guns or the 2A until after the OC buffet incedent. I found this site after the story hit the local paper.

Since that time, I had been talking to my wife about getting a gun for Home defense and target shooting. She wasn't all too interested but listened when I talked to her about it.

Finally, this past friday we purchased a firearm. We got an FNP-9M (picture post coming soon), and went to the range over the weekend. She liked it and is now considering going with me to get an LTCF.

So, today my wife is a greeter/watcher at a rural polling place here in Lackawanna County. One of the guys near her is a greeter for Chester Cipilewski who is running for Sheriff. This guy told several people, in casual conversations, that there was a 3 day waiting period to get a gun in PA. Finally as he was telling yet another person about the 3 day waiting period my wife interrupted him and told him he was wrong.

The guy insisted he was right, but my wife set him straight. There is no waiting period, you fill out a PA instant check form, the dealer calls it in and if you check out fine you leave with your gun in maybe 10 minutes.

Then the guy started saying you can't open carry a gun only conceal carry and you need a permit for that. She then set him straight on those "facts" too, stating PA is an open carry state and you get an LCTF, license to carry firearms, to conceal carry or carry in a vehicle. He refused to believe that open carry was legal in PA. She told this guy if he's a greeter for someone running for sheriff he should get his facts straight and he should call Chester. He is actually from our town and my wife knows him casually. She also told him that the guy he is campaigning for would be the guy to issue those LTCF's if he were elected. This guy then asked her if she was a cop or a lawyer or something and she just said she knows her rights, lol.

When she came home to tell me this story I had to laugh because she had her facts and terminology down like someone with 500 posts on the forum and yet she's never been on here, lol. I guess it just goes to show you how much I talked to(nagged) her about what I learned on this site. She actually listened.

Hopefully the guy running for sheriff is better informed than his flunky...especially if he does become sheriff at some point.
