Default Need help to get a gun for the wife.

I bought her a 38 special, but she is 4' 11" and 98lbs with small hands and can not pull a DA revolver or cock the hammer. She can pull the trigger on my Glock 19, but what other gun would be small for carry small to hold and with a light trigger pull in nothing under a 38 or 380. I was thinking the LCP, but is the trigger pull on that twice the pull of a Glock?

how about a sub-compact XD... bought one for my fiancee (5'0" and 105#) and she is able to shoot it with no problem. Moving the slide took some practice, but she will get the hang of it in no time. Walther or Bersa make good small sa/da autos as well (they were other possible candidates in our search). SIG, too, has a small auto out, but it is pricey and somewhat heavy.

I would never buy a glock (except G18) out of pure distaste for their ugliness, but if she already likes it, why not a Sub compact in 9mm or even .380??? While my first choice would be the XD sub, the glock it definitely lighter by a few ounces.

My wife is 5'0" and 105 lbs... She can easily squeeze a S&W model 36, in both single and double action! May I suggest some Wheaties?

I am getting ready to get her a model 642 with Crimson Trace grips, it really fits her hand well!!

Sorry to hear that you need to think auto!! Pulling the slide might be tough too!!

Might I suggest one of these to broaden the choices in possible handguns for her.

Since everyone has an opinion, here's mine.
No one should EVER buy a gun for their SO with out having her hold it, shoot it and if it will be a self defense gun, holster it and do some holster presentations.

You as her husband or boyfriend or dad cannot know what is comfortable for her to manipulate.

Go to a range that rents, even an hour or better away. Let her decide. Buy what works for her.

OK. Now, go get her a Glock 19.

Ugly means nothing. Simplicity, reliability ease of manipulation means everything.

Naturally, kidding (just ever so slightly) about the Glock but a lot of women like them.

M&P's or XD's. Whatever suits her. The M&P has different sized grips which may win her over.

how about a stronger recoil spring (if you end up with an auto)???
However, I think if she can't handle a .380, she needs to learn how to shoot properly.

Have her pick the gun out. If all she can handle is a .22 for now, that's what it will have to be. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised. If she can't cock a revolver, can she rack the slide on a 9mm or .380?

I'm sure colagrrl will chime in soon, but there are methods for women with less arm strength to rack the slide of an auto. just search for "guns for wife/fiancee/girlfriend" I know it isn't that old and she informed another member of it recently.
