Default MIL-sim .22LR rifles we would buy

The recent posts about the new “Colt” .22LR AR and the “Gunsmith” topic about .22LR AR conversions got me to thinking of the current crop of .22LR“MIL-sims” we have available - and what we would like to have.

So far today you can go buy the new “Colt-trademarked” ARs and the GSG5 – which cover 2 of the most wildly popular guns on earth; the M4 and MP5.

Next we have the due-any-minute S&W M&P15, the SiG556, the return of the PPS-50, and a visual replica of an AK from the GSG folks.

We may/may not see a return to market of the WASR22 AKM, (BTW; a real AKM made in .22LR).
To add to the list of the lost is the Norinco Kar98 bolt rifle, the “AKT-98” - a pre-WASR22 Romy AKM, and the Italian-made siblings of the PPS-50; a GIAT FAMAS, Galil ARM, another AKM22, and the VietNam-ish AR15 – which was also sold in .32ACP!, and finally; the Auto-Ord 1927A3.

(I’m not even counting those ARMSCORP-branded abortions supposedly representing an AR and an AK.)

Assuming we have a gazillion bucks to open a factory, what .22LR MIL-sim should we build next?

Voted for the FN FS2000 - Way cool!

But, I would really like to see good, but inexpensive AR .22 upper components available for building. It is nuts that .22 uppers are much more expensive than .223s. Only 2 custom components: barrel and bolt/carrier assembly.

This should really be a multiple choice poll. I voted Garand though.

I voted for the M1; however, I don't agree with the 10/22 magazines. I want mini en-bloc clips.

I'd imagine it might be a little difficult getting the rimmed cases to feed correctly with an enbloc clip.

i wanted to turn a 10/22 into a krinker plinker but whoa is that expensive. 300 for the 10/22 then another 300 to turn it into the krinker .

I voted for the G36, reason being the closest you can come to a real one is an SL-8 converted with a G36 parts kit. Like the GSG-5, there is a big novelty factor due to rarity of the real deal. The GSG AK doesn't do anything for me since I can get (and have) a full-size full blooded Kalasnikov.

The Garand would be cool but aftermarket 10/22 mags lack reliabilty. Everything else on the list would be cool also...

I am really tempted to say FG 42 or STG 44, because I really like those guns...But i think a G36 replica would be the best decision from a business sense.

$300 for a 10/22? you're getting ripped off. You should be able to get a new one for under $200

i have the armi jager AP74 copy of the M16, and enjoy shooting it. if another vendor picked up the design they would sell briskly for less than $350. trouble is the only country it can be made for cheap enough to retail at that level is prohibited from selling military style firearms to US vendors.

right now i think they are about $400, excellent condition, and the mags are proprietary, so hellish pricey. i have 6 spares and have seen them gunbroker as high as $110 each. maybe i should sell some.
