Re: Chicago Tribune Political Cartoon - 1934
It has always amazed me how even educated people can repeat history again and again, all the while expecting different results even though the same outcome resulted every time before..."but this time is different because of _______"
And don't think you're off the hook, voters, you're the ones who made this bed. Now you're the ones who are going to have to move over so a gay couple can sleep in it. Tomorrow you're all going to wake up in a brave new world, a world where the Constitution gets trampled by an army of terrorist clones, created in a stem-cell research lab run by homosexual doctors who sterilize their instruments over burning American flags. -- Stephen Colbert

Re: Chicago Tribune Political Cartoon - 1934
Seen that before and yes it is very familiar these days.
And yes history does and is repeating itself but what's funny is the cartoon basically saying we were rolling down the communist / socialist road back then and it didn't happen (even though we can all agree government started getting WAY too big) and here we are again just making government bigger again.
Here's a great page of famous quotes on 'history', I was going to just ad some here but there are too many ... enjoy:

Wow...that's crazy. History can be cruel if we fail to learn from it.

Re: Chicago Tribune Political Cartoon - 1934
In my opinion, if we didn't have the checks and balances in the government and an armed free population that wasn't in poverty we would be Communist right now...it was a drastic shift for the Soviet Union because noone could oppose it, but in the US the government has been slowly tiptoeing in that direction...being very careful to make it seem like baby steps to avoid alerting the populace until you look back and see just how far from the founding fathers' path we really are...
Just my two cents on that for what its worth...And don't think you're off the hook, voters, you're the ones who made this bed.
