check engine light
I can’t keep the check engine light out in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee and it will not pass Motor Vehicle Inspection if it is on. Disconnecting the battery cable for a short period keeps the light out for only a couple of days. I’m looking for other "permanent solutions" that won’t put me in need of ‘federal bailout’. I couldn’t figure out how to get dashboard glass out so I could “Sharpie it” with black ink. I’ve been playing with the idea of drilling through the glass with the smallest drill bit right into the center of the lit-up engine light, figuring that ought to kill it. I figure someone out there might be able to advise about drilling or have some other “creative” idea.

Re: check engine light
Have you had the codes read? I don't see why it would fail inspection due to this.
troll Free. It's all in your mind.

OH OH! I GOT ONE.....
fix the problem.
oh by the way... I think they hook your jeep upto an odbII scanner... once they do that, you're toast if all you do is drill out the light.
If the check engine light is on, you will not pass inspection."Do not use K-9 advantix on cats"

Re: check engine light
Go to advance auto or autozone and have them read the code for you and get the parts to fix it. If the light is on for any reason it will not pass. They don't look at the light they plug your car into a machine that reads it. Drilling the light out or sharpieing it won't work.

Re: check engine light
If it is an emissions Co. it fails.
Try getting it fixed.
It will probably run better after its fixed.
Novel idea, HUH?

Re: check engine light
Until now I didn't realize there were counties in PA that don't do emissions tests.
Yes, it relates to emissions tests. The machine will not perform the emissions test if your check engine light is on, therefore you will fail.

Re: check engine light
Just get the code read. You may be able to fix it easily.
It's probably something stupid. Maybe you need new spark plugs and you're getting a miss or something. That will throw a code.
