Default Oil City Man Jailed for Shooting

Interesting story here. It's a little short on information, but worthy of discussion, especially in light of the one guy who got nabbed for firing into the air. This guy fired his gun, but it isn't clear where...

    Feel free to discuss!

An Oil City man was jailed Sunday afternoon for discharging a gun near a teenage boy in Venango County.

Franklin-based State Police say that the 17-year-old youth engaged in an argument with 44-year-old David Porterfield at a residence along Route 428 in Oakland Township. The argument came to a head when Porterfield pulled out a firearm and fired a round in the youth's presence. No one was hurt.

Porterfield was arraigned on charges of simple and aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment before Magisterial District Judge Doug Gerwick of Emlenton. He was lodged in the Venango County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

The info is too sparse so cannot really comment on anything specific. The only thing lacking is a self defense claim. That may be yet to come from the defense.

So far, sounds like an overheated argument and someone went too far or got too angy. But like I said, that is only how it looks so far. I hope that is not the case. Probably just spin from the papers.

Assault can be the use of force against another or the threat of using force IIRC.

    The argument when something like,

(17 year old boy): Dave, I'M TELLING YOU, THE GUN IS LOADED!
(Dave): NO IT'S NOT! SEE WATCH!!!!!

fired a round in the youth's presence
Well shit I guess we need to be careful that there are no youts at the range from now on.Spelling of youths is intentional.
