Default How much does 14 rounds of .45acp weigh????

    -

I hope I've posted this in the proper forum.

I was up the Gander Mountain the other day for some excessive fondling of an XD45 Tactical (5" barrel) and it weighs in at 32oz.

I was OC'ing my CZ-75BD, which is all steel and, by my perception, heavy.

Luckily, the GM also had a 75BD uder the glass, so I asked to see them both for comparison (I never never touch my own firearm while out).

I was surprised to feel that the 75BD was, in fact, HEAVIER than the full-size XD!

BUT - I got to thinking that once that XD is fully loaded with 14 rounds of 230gr HPGD's........she's gonna be a bit heavier!

A classic conundrum.....I like that big caliber and big-gun feel....but I don't like the weight!

I just don't care for the way Glocks feel in my hand.....so I cannot give them a nod. I really like the hand-feel of the XD - But wow, how heavy is it gonna be?

So then I gotta ask THIS - how much do weight perceptions change from one holster to another? In other words, I've got a good belt, but what about the holster? Can a firearm feel heavier in one yet less so in another?

    Thanks for hearing my rant!

13 rounds weighs 12 ounces, so 14 should weigh just under 13 ounces

actual feel may vary depending on size and balance...

this is just my personal experience but a small but heavy gun will feel like it weighs more then a larger gun that is the same weight... I'm sure there is some scientific reasoning behind it but I dunno what it is

I don't know exactly what the op wanted, but I'd say yes, the type of holster matters. "Heaviness" is all perception - it doesn't matter what the actual weight is. In terms of my general observation, things thar are held closer to the core of your body usually feels not as heavy- so from that, I would say a IWB holster that fits well would make the same firearm feel "better" than if you were to carry it OWB.
My 2 cents, hope that helps.

A good belt is just as critical (maybe more) as a good holster. A good combination will take a lot of the "apparent" weight away. A poor fitting belt and holster will be uncomfortable with any gun and even more so with a heavier gun. If you're going to carry (OC or CC) don't skimp on the belt.

You might think of the XD 45 Compact Tactical, 5" comes with a 10 and a 13 round magazine. Or maybe a 4" compact, that would cut weight for carry and the 3/4" less grip lenght helps with concealability if you CC
