Default Mech Tec 1911 Conversion Kit

I was thinking of getting one of the Mech Tec 1911 Carbine conversion kits and I wondered if any of you have tried one? I'm not a big fan of the stock on them but otherwise I think it would be kind of fun to play with. Any thoughts?

Had one in .38 Super, great shooter just could not stand the stock. When you are done with it they are hard to sell.

You have to do permanent modification to the gun to install them?

No, you just take off the slide from the existing full size 1911 and they attach without modification or gunsmithing. i wonder if one would fit on my springfield champion since it only has a 4 inch barrel.

also, other than the stock being ugly, what didn't you like?

It was not the appearance, the stock was very uncomfortable. I sold the extra 1911 that was dedicated to the upper. On the positive side with .38 Super heavy loads and a scope it would scare you with the groups at 100 yds. My rifle shooter friend shot a 1.75 inch 3 shot group, my best was about 2.5 in.

The mech tec for the glock 21 is a great tool. 30 round magazines are plentiful. If you go to their website, they have 3 stock options. A little imagination, purchase a SBR permit and cut down the barrel, add a silencer... it could be a great survival gun.
