Default Ultramax .45 ACP 230 gr. LRN

Cabellas has 1200 rounds for $375. How good is the stuff? Would you trust it for personal defense? I know there are better defense rounds out there but want to stockpile cost effectively.

    Lets see.

375$ for 1200 plus tax. 397$ or so. For this you are getting rnl reloads at 33 cents before you add shipping.

Gerogia arms. Full metal jackets 1000 230 grain. 320$ shipped (no tax) 32 cents a round.

I would go with fmj any day over lrn.

For defense ammo, I would never use either if hollowpoints were available.

Georgia arms has 1000 230 gr hps delivered for 380$ 38 cents a round.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

They got GREAT prices on .45 JHP. Good prices on 9mm FMJ, but the 9mm JHP seemed expensive. I assume the canned heat stuff is reloadable (boxer primed & brass cases)?

    Yes, They are completely reloadable.

It is remanufactured and is very dirty. I bought it once and will not buy it again.

Did it function reliably? Just looking for cheap ammo w/ reloadable cases to stock up on. But, if SHTF, may use for personal defense.

If used for personal defence, why would you need hundreds of rounds? Maybe a cpl dozen to make sure it worked ok first, but after that, why would you waste it at the range? I have 2 dozen hp's for my 45acp personal defence stockpile. The rest is target/range ammo which is LSWC's.

2 dozen? What if Nobama puts on a 1000% tax on ammo? Economy goes to hell in a handbasket? You have all the JHPs you think you will ever need stockpiled?

Agreeing w/ jmanzini, it is very dirty. I use it in 9mm for shooting at steel plates (its all my range allows). I had some issues, but that was related to the extractor on my XD9. It should be OK for practice, but get some good HP's for personal defense.
