MBRs use a full length cartridge such as 7.5 swiss, 308, 30-06, 8mm mauser, 7.62x54r, 303 brit, etc.
as opposed to something like a AR15 or AK47, which is NOT a "battle rifle" as it uses an intermediate cartridge, in its true form, the AR15/AK47/FN2000 and other such smaller cartridge guns are "assault rifles" provided they are select fire.
as opposed to something in a pistol cartridge, which is neither of the above, technically a "submachine gun" in its true form
