thinking of building one of my new ar's in .223wssm

im pondering building one of my new ars in .223wssm any thoughts from anyone? has anyone shot an ar in 223wssm? whats the average barrel life if im shooting loads around 4000fps? and more importantly how much is it going to cost me to feed the thing?

4000fps should last you awhile with newer barrels. I couldn't give you an approximate rounds count.

Any higher than that and you'll will be shortening the life. You will want to keep pressures low and stay away from max loads. Throat erosion is what starts showing its ugly head first with fast bullets and high pressures.

I wore out a 220 Swift shooting 4200fps vitamin Pb pills at chucks under 500 rounds.

I was always enamoured with the .243 WSSM and .25 WSSM that Oly offerred, but I've never shot one. The major limitation with off caliber AR's tends to be the magazines and feeding. Some run great, others not so well.
