Default Anyone with a laser on their j-frame?

I bought a S@W 442 on an impulse but the other night with all intentions of installing crimson trace grips. While holding the pistol I couldn’t help but think there is not much room for the laser the way I hold my hand on the unit. Then upon reading the latest copy of American Handgunner I stumbled upon the Lasermax version. Anyone have either? What are the pros & cons?

Only played with the demo version at the gun shops. I didn't have any problems with the Crimson Trace, snapping the pistol up for a quick shot. I like how quick I got on target with it actually. I still may get one for the J-frame.

Don't know nothing about the laser max. It looks a bit bigger and I wonder if it may interfer with holster use, you may want to check that out.

I also wonder how it installs. I cant find much, But it looks to me like you have to replace all of the side pannel screws. That will probably ruin a warranty.

I do like the laser up high though.

With your finger indexed alongside the frame the laser will be blocked. With your finger on the trigger it will be clear.

    If you're right-handed, that is.

I have a S&W M&P 340 with a set of CTC grip already on it from factory, it's the kind that's in the first pic you posted.

As with any laser on any gun, I wouldn't only rely on it to aim, but it's a nice tool to have if you get stuck in tight & stressful situations and have to make a quick shot without aiming. At least then you'd have a reference dot. They feel a little different from the "normal" j-frame grip with the finger grooves, but they're not uncomfortable, just different.

Would I use laser at the range? I don't think so, other than to see what it's like... would it help you shoot better? No. but if you have to shoot in the retention position in a self-defense situation, it sure helps to see that dot on the BG and not the old lady behind him and across the street.

    My 2 cents

Ct laser on a S&W 642. Installs easily, battery changes are easy. Good training tool, I believe it would be a good backup assist in a bad situation.

The LaserMax J-Max installs easily. It might take a little more time than the CTC, but the laser position is in the right spot. Your finger won't block the beam or come on unintentionally when you're in a stress situation and giving up your position is an issue.

    Check install here.....http://www.lasermax.com/downloads/J-...ide_vC_web.pdf

    J-Max runs $199 MSRP

Two versions Hammered and Non-Hammered http://www.lasermax.com/category.php?id=8

You don't have to re-align after you change the batteries either.

Overall, it's just a better designed product and in most cases cheaper too.

Oh, and to answer the other question, removing the side plate screws will not void your warranty. If you ever need to warranty your revolver, just remove the LaserMax product, and put the S&W screws back in. There are no permanent modifications you need to make to your gun to have a LaserMax J-Max.
