    Default A CC vacation

Well, some work was involved. It was our annual pilgrimage down to western Florida to visit our daughter and her family. I do some work for the local woodturning club which at least makes it a tax deductible trip. Armed with my Pa LTCF and my Utah CFP, I am legal every step of the way with the exception of 12 miles in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Maryland. As anyone who knows me knows, I am an open carry guy whenever possible, although I do conceal for an hour, an afternoon, or whatever the situation requires. This situation required 10 days of concealed carry.

I can tell you this, it made me really appreciate the ability to openly carry my firearm here at home. It was a constant succession of more clothes (in oppressive heat and humidity), smaller guns, worrying about printing in those states where I could be harrassed or jailed for such, etc. I am really looking forward to being able to strap on my SIG Sauer P220 out in the open and walk about with it without worrying about someone turning me in, or some cop arresting me for improperly carrying.

On the other hand, I was glad to be able to carry for as much as I did. The trip is just over 1100 miles each way. The Maryland part makes up just over 1% of the distance, and we make it a point not to spend any money in Maryland. I did not run into any unsavory characters, but if I did, I was armed with more than witty repartee to fend them off. It is good to be home, and I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed surrounded by guns and ammunition.

Another reason for the "shall not be infringed" clause.

By controlling and enforcing rigid carry restrictions, method-wise, they make it more likely to be arrested or hassled for a mistake/accidental uncovering than having to use it in self defense. Although, not having it and needing it is worst case scenario that might kill, the average citizen will not be bothered to attempt it.

The advantage does not seem to outweigh the negative consequence (despite the severity of being unarmed at the wrong time).

I just noticed on handgunlaw.us that you were illegal in South Carolina. they don't take our LCTF or Utah's. Am I right or is the site wrong?

Neither. We go down through Tennessee and Alabama to western Florida, partly because we don't have to fight the traffic in Atlanta, and partly so we don't have to go through SC.
