Trip to the CMP store at Camp Perry, OH
In a few weeks, I am going to make a pilgrimage to the CMP store at Camp Perry, Ohio. Since it will be a long trip, I was wondering if anybody here has been there and has any advice on what to expect. I have all my CMP mandated qualifications (club membership, shooting experience, etc.).
A few specific questions I have:
1). May I, in fact, purchase a rifle in Ohio as a PA resident? Will the rifle need to be shipped back home for the transfer before I take possession?
2). Do they take credit cards or only cash?
3). Are the South Korean M1's up for sale yet?
4). Is it extremely busy? Would it be better to go on Friday or Saturday?
5). Anything about the sale unusual? In other words, not like a normal gun shop.
Thanks.

There is a ton of great information on http://www.odcmp.com/ including a FAQ thread that will answer all your questions.

I'd also check the cmp forum to see what is there. Sometimes the shelves are bare if you're looking for a specific type.

Ask questions at the "store". The employees know more about the M-1 than Mr. Garand himself. They will help you! Have fun.

They will ship it for you or you can take it home.
2). Do they take credit cards or only cash?
Either
3). Are the South Korean M1's up for sale yet?
those are not coming to CMP Centry arms bought them for $500+ each. youre better off getting one from CMP
4). Is it extremely busy? Would it be better to go on Friday or Saturday?
You'd be better off going during the week.
5). Anything about the sale unusual? In other words, not like a normal gun shop.
you need to meet the basic qualifications see odcmp.com for details

If they have your paper work on file, yes...best thing to do is call and find out what your status is.
they take both
They are not getting these...
Weekdays are less busy than Sat. You do want to make sure you are there first thing in the morning, and you should plan to spend a fair amount of time there as they replenish the stock as the racks empty during the day. When I went there last spring I drove all night and arrived first thing in the A.M. I found some nice rifles, paid for them, than went to check out the base. On my way out I looked in on the store again and they had brought out some other nice rifles.
Not really...
Some other things to keep in mind, keep your speed down in Ohio...When I was there tons of cops were out trying to catch speeders..
Bring more money than you plan on spending, chances are you will find something else you want there. I went with enough cash for two rifles, but ended up buying a third as well as some ammo.
Call the store ahead of time to determine when they had their last delivery from Anniston. If it was not recently, there probably isn't much in the store to choose from.Last edited by glocke12; December 26th, 2012 at 05:53 PM.

A friend of mine used to make one trip a year. He would of had 40 garands if he didn't sell them all.

If you are into military helicopters, etc, drive around the base. There is lots of neat stuff on display at the base.
