Septa Police
I was reading this article about a shooting by SEPTA police and it reminded me of a thread by Mpan72, and particularly this part of a post by SoberByker.

SEPTA's answer:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting us. Management from the Transit Police Department reports that the law allows valid permit holders to carry firearms on our system, though they would prefer that they not do so. There is no policy that they are aware of, just the law.
Sincerely,
Barry Berky

I find it lame that they would prefer people not carry on their system so that they could protect themselves, when there are people like the knife wielding man from the article below. These two lines stood out to me.
"After he comes at the officers"
and
“The shooting looks good … the officers are in fear of their lives. They did what they had to do. No one else got hurt.”
I do not understand why they don't get that this could have happened to anyone, and we should all have the same right to keep from being harmed that those officers did.

UPPER DARBY — A knife-wielding township man who was allegedly coming at two SEPTA police officers inside the crowded 69th Street Terminal was shot by the officers after he ignored several orders to drop his weapon Wednesday night.
The man, identified as 55-year-old Mark Singer of Merion Trace Apartments, suffered “two or three wounds in the arm, shoulder and side,” and was listed in stable condition at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
Noting the investigation was in its preliminary stages, Chitwood said initial information pointed to a situation of an attempted “suicide by cop.”
“After he comes at the officers, what he says is he wishes they had shot him in the heart and killed him,” Chitwood said.
As for the SEPTA officers, Chitwood said, “The shooting looks good … the officers are in fear of their lives. They did what they had to do. No one else got hurt.”
The SEPTA officers, a male and female who were not identified, were on routine patrol when the incident began to unfold at about 8 p.m., a typically busy time inside the terminal, according to Chitwood.
“They see a guy coming toward them wielding a knife. He is coming directly at them,” Chitwood said. “They tell him to drop the knife. He keeps coming at them.”
Both officers drew their weapons: One fired three shots; the other fired one, Chitwood said.
According to Chitwood, Singer appears to have had only one previous run-in with the law. Charged with harassment and stalking in 1996, he pleaded guilty to harassment and was placed on probation.
Chitwood said the knife had a long blade.
“It’s in evidence now,” he said.

Re: Septa Police
Maybe you should ask them to ban criminals and crazy people from riding.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Septa Police
You're cutting out 75% of their fare base. Buses and subways would be empty.

Re: Septa Police
I wonder if this incident involving guns would factor into Piers Morgan's statistics on gun violence?
