Pittsburgh Police officer shoots self in hand
Our company had a local police officer give us an overview of City of Pgh requirements for delivery of oversized / permitted loads to our jobsites and where liabilities lie when directing the trucking companies where to deliver our loads.
He mentioned something about one of their own shooting himself in the hand so i googled it.
I wonder how something like this could possibly happen. Any ideas???????

PITTSBURGH -- An off-duty officer was treated at a hospital after accidentally shooting himself at home, Pittsburgh police said.
Homicide detectives initially responded to the call at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The injured officer told them he was unloading another officer's service weapon when it accidentally went off, according to a police news release.
A bullet struck one of his hands and became lodged in a wall, according to the officer's account.
He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and later discharged in good condition. Meanwhile, the weapon was removed for processing by investigators.
The officer's name and the location of his home were not disclosed by police. He's identified only as an 18-month member of the city's police bureau.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

The same way all accidental discharges happen, not following proper procedure and protocol. The basics of firearm safety.
I had an accidental discharge clearing a weapon I was not familiar with during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. I was probably the most knowledgeable gun guy in my platoon yet, it still happened. Totally foreign weapon system but at least I made sure I was in an area where no one else was, some safety precautions taken but it still AD'd on me.

Beats me how the hell that could ever happen.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Re: Pittsburgh Police officer shoots self in hand
Ejected the magazine, went to rack the slide to eject the chambered round with his hand/forearm in front of the barrel...finger on the trigger.
I'd put 10 bucks on it...

Wouldn't it be great if there were an abundance of news articles and coverage outlets relaying stories of LEOs handling weapons properly, rooted in Pro-2A support?

Of his buddy's gun??
I think horseplay was involved. I've never finished up hot at the range or came back to the vehicle while hunting and said, "Hey little bro, can you unload my firearm for me? Here...". It's just unusual, and in my opinion noteworthy, that the article mentions the weapon was another officer's... Gotta think critically and wonder why that small fact made the cut.

Re: Pittsburgh Police officer shoots self in hand
my guesses are:
"yeah man, i can catch a bullet! i learned how on the internet!"
or
"hey, these gloves have a kevlar lining, shouldn't they be able to stop a bullet?"
or
"DAMMIT! I TOLD YOU TO STOP POKING ME IN THE BUTT WITH THE FLASHLIGHT..."
