Unless said felony was one that was not a disqualifier. Not all felony convictions make one a prohibited person.

If it were indeed a prohibiting felony, it does not 'expire.' A pardon/expungement would be the only possible course of action to have one's rights restored.

my felony conviction had absolutely nothing to do with any kind of a gun and also i have had a f.b.I. background check with finger prints my record is absolutely clear that is why i was asking the question!

Careful, it might be a problem for a prohibited person to attempt to buy a firearm. For one, he would have to lie on the form where it asks if he's been convicted of a felony.
