Default The new reason why health care is "a must" - death

Uninsured ER patients twice as likely to die
New study highlights disparity of care for those who don't have coverage

CHICAGO - Uninsured patients with traumatic injuries, such as car crashes, falls and gunshot wounds, were almost twice as likely to die in the hospital as similarly injured patients with health insurance, according to a troubling new study.

The findings by Harvard University researchers surprised doctors and health experts who have believed emergency room care was equitable.

"This is another drop in a sea of evidence that the uninsured fare much worse in their health in the United States," said senior author Dr. Atul Gawande, a Harvard surgeon and medical journalist.

The study, appearing in the November issue of Archives of Surgery, comes as Congress is debating the expansion of health insurance coverage to millions more Americans. It could add fodder to that debate.

So , is the point we should all get us some insurance or that the government should give us all insurance ? With the source being MSNBC I would figure it is the latter .
Don't blame me ; I voted for an American .

Even if this study were true, gov run health care (it's not reform, it's a takeover) will = reduced quality of care for ALL Americans.

    I'll pass

And we all need Government run health care because blah, blah, blah, blah!

The last time the Gvernment tried this, with everybody should own a house, what did we end up with?

There's a reason some people have a nicer home and/or drive a nice car and that same reason applies to why they have better health insurance!

    This is a repost from a post I made in this thread;

True, and don't forget more expensive. I watched some of the House debate and hearing Democrat after Democrat keep on and on with the mantra of providing access to quality, affordable health care, I kept saying to the TV "That would be great, now why don't you write a bill to do that?!"

My abridged, single-volume copy of Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire clocks less than 925 pages - does anybody really believe that it takes a thousand pages more to write a health care plan? No! Because it's NOT ABOUT HEALTH CARE!

    DON'T get me started!!!!

I've spent 26 years using the NHS, now I have to (possibly) contend with another useless Government health care system!!

For some reason I think they might have an agenda. This must be a distortion of the truth. So you are twice a likely to die in a HOSPITAL with no insurance? If this would be true people would be tried for murder.

FYI, the crap-fest passed by the House contains 6,700 words - JUST IN THE TABLE OF CONTENTS. Section 222, which defines the "Essential Benefits Package" weighs in at almost 24,000 words, or 59 letter-sized pages.

Wait a minute! The bill must be that long. If it would be ten pages everyone would know how bad they are being screwed. The devil is always in the details.
