Re: December 7th, 1941
My Grandfather had the misfortune of being stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time. His ship, the USS Tennessee managed to stay afloat but many others around his ship sank. As a survivor, he was one of the men that was charged with the gruesome task of cleaning up afterwards. Besides the friends that he lost and the hearing damage that he sustained, the events of that day and of the years to come took a heavy emotional toll on him that he never really finished paying. I'll always be thankful for his brave service and immense sacrifice. Rest in peace, Cody Carpenter.

I was there last year. Looking down on the Arizona really puts things in perspective.
God bless and keep them.

Pearl Harbor is fast becoming a forgotten event. But it should never be forgotten...

I just saw a clip on TV this week about when Elvis was discharged from the US ARMY 3rd Armored Division, he did a benefit concert in Hawaii for the USS Arizona. In the same week a discussion about how more celebrities have visited Hugo Chavez than the troops in Afghanistan or Iraq.

I'd love to take a trip to Pearl Harbor one day. I couldn't even imagine being there when it happened.

Just remember. They started it like this:
And by God, we ended it like this:
All gave some,
And some gave all.
Some stood true for the Red White and Blue
And some had to fall.
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall.

Re: December 7th, 1941
I'm currently reading a book called Twenty-five Yards of War. I can't remember the author right now, but he is/was a colleague of Steven Ambrose.
It's about many battles of WWII. Lots of interesting info. It's a bit more personal because it usually follows one soldier through each battle and talks about his experiences and what he did.
