There is a link to the form on the site, on the menu on the left, forms, then leathal weapon. Print the form, fill out, get the money order for $80.25, call your nearest PSP station, make appointment for fingerprinting.
Then print out the forms for the physical, and psych, find a doctor that will do the physical, a schrink who will do the psych, pay them, they send it in. Check the list of schools, find one by you, and find out when they will have a class, and the cost.
In the menu for online services, once you submit your form you can track the progress. The PSP will let you know when all clears, then you can take the class. Pay school, take class. School sends in results, the you pay a second fee to PSP, I forget how much it is, $34 perhaps, and get your 235.
I am awaiting my PSP clearance so the I can take my class, I have signed up for one at the end of the month.
It's a case of hurry up and wait, as each step go through.
    Good luck.

Great explanation of the process. I went through it last year and it took about three months.

Now I'm working part-time armed security.

Your friend may have misstated where he got his ACT235 because ONLY the Pa State Police issue this license and have for many years.

Or was he referring to the actual school he attended?

I believe your friend may have used the services of the school. If you contact the number provided for the school in Centre Co., they may, or may not, have a lot of the forms and services (Psychologist, Physician and what not) all lined up and have a more direct route to PSP. When I took mine at Mansfield Univ. 15 or so years ago. I attended the class without any paper work. I filled in the blanks later.

I have a Private Detective Agency and provide Armed Agents on a regular basis. I know many "card holders" and have heard so many variations over the years of what method was used to get certified.

Just my experience, your results may vary.

Be safe (and certified, it says so right on the card ).
