Made before what year = No pics check
I can't find it, and it came up at work today, what is the year of manufacture that if the gun was made before such and such date then no check is needed?

Re: Made before what year = No pics check
With the ridiculous laws these days, I'd guess 2014 BC.
Sorry, I don't know, though.

Re: Made before what year = No pics check
i don't think there is such a date.
i bought an 1895 krag, and was 'checked'.
i believe the key is black powder, muzzleloaders and cap and ball guns seem to be immune.it's only metal, we can out think it....

"antique" firearms are exempt from transfer laws.
Antique is defined by 18 USC 921 (a)(16).
(A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock,
percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or
before 1898;
and
(B) any replica of any firearm described in subparagraph (A) if such replica --
(i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or
(ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured
in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial
trade.Last edited by Pa. Patriot; January 28th, 2008 at 10:25 PM. Reason: readability/formatting

Re: Made before what year = No pics check
If it helps, just because a gun is a model of 1895 does not mean that the gun was made in 1895, it's when the model started, could be made in 1900, which nees to be checked, but if actually made in 1896 it does not. It is the actual date the gun is made, not the date the model came out, that counts.
