Firearm stats in PA
Just wondering if anyone knows the following about PA gun owners:
1. Approximate population or percentage of citizens who own firearms.
2. Amount of firearms per capita.
3. Amount of citizens who have a LTCF.
I'd like to see state wide statistics, not county by county if possible. Thanks.

Re: Firearm stats in PA
There are a couple threads on the forum about LCTF stats. In one thread the demographics (people at least 21 years of age) is included. See if you can find that thread. I pasted those data in Excel, and IIRC, LTCF is approximately 5% in the Commonwealth for people at least 21.

As reference point, among shall issue states nationwide the % varries from about 1% to about 5% . Apearent factorys include the difficulty and cost to obtain permit, and what is allowed w/o permit. Specifically in those jurisdictions where it is legal to carry in vehicle, or at place of busssiness w/o permit, have lower percentages , making inference that substantial part of population is satisfied to carry in glove box, etc .

Heard it stated once that the Commonwealth has no idea of how many of its citizens own guns (long guns, shotguns, handguns).
As for LTCFs, approximately 670,000 are in circulation, the vast majority being for Pennsylvania residents.

I did a similar analysis. I know that without backup it's worthless (I never saved it). But if you do your own you can see if mine was any good. I took no-permit stats (Vermont and Alaska I think), excluded NJ, RI, MD, WI, CA, IL, NY and came up with about a 4% carry rate. It was back of the envelope and probably not very accurate but now I wish I saved it. Of course, I excluded states with a large population of the country.

Ahh, here they are:

I'm confused, are you saying that close to 20% of people in PA have LTCF?
