Default Outfitter kills grizzly with 9mm

I'll just leave this here for discussion.

    https://www.americanhunter.org/artic...th-9mm-pistol/

Larry and his wife were fishing with me, and because we were going to a small stream I had fished before, which had numerous large male brown bears, I decided to take my Smith & Wesson 3953 DAO 9mm, rather than the S&W 629 .44 Mag. Mountain Gun I have carried for the past 25 years, as the larger boars are usually less of a problem than sows with cubs.

No surprise here it's been done and documented with a .380 before.
Bears are not magical they are just big, mean and fast so you have to to be faster when it comes to defending yourself.

Unless you run into this bear and if you do your just plain ole screwed.

I'm glad everyone is OK, but I simply cannot understand going into brown bear country with a single stack nine. Being possible and having good odds are not the same thing.

Interesting. The author made well founded, conscious decisions on choice of firearm and ammo and had the ability and experience to act. One cannot argue the outcome. It comes down to personal choice and in my case that would be a large bore revolver or a 10mm along with appropriate ammo.

When I was in Alaska we carried big bore magnums. Since then I have read that cheap bear cure is 12 gauge slugs. More recently I have talked to people in Alaska and it sounds like they just shoot them in the head with anything available, including 9mm handguns and .223 ARs. And a LOT more bears are killed than are reported or summarized in the statistics. It seems to be a fairly common occurence, contrary to what the goverment might tell you.

    Remember the old adage..........

"When choosing a gun for self defense against bear, choose one with the shortest possible barrel..... This way when the bear shoves it up your ass it won't hurt as bad!!!!!"
