United Way Worldwide orders firearms raffle to be shut down
United Way Worldwide ordered the United Way of Otero County to cease a firearms raffle it was conducting.

The letter linked in the article is very enlightening.
A search of the web finds that there are many United Way wine tastings and casino nights which, likewise, should be "exclusions".Last edited by bossride; August 6th, 2016 at 02:29 PM.

Re: United Way Worldwide orders firearms raffle to be shut down
My email I just sent to Patti Turner:
Since legal firearms are seen as a detriment to the public by your organization I need to ask why wine tasting events are not?
My daughters, ages 10 and 12 were injured by a drunk driver.
In light of the United Ways stance on supporting drunk drivers I will be sure to inform my company Monday that I no longer wish to donate my money and have their matching funds go to the United Way but instead to the National Rifle Association ILA fund.
Thank you for supporting drunk drivers and gamblers (casino nights).

I also took the opportunity to send an email to them telling them that they have seen the last of my donations, and that I will make sure that I let as many others as I can know of their anti-freedom position so that others don't send them money as well. It probably won't change anything (I doubt that we'll even receive a response from them) as these types are so convinced of their superiority that they simply write off any other opinions. But at least they will know that some people do pay attention and if enough of us hit them where it hurts (their pocketbooks and bank accounts) it might make them think.

Re: United Way Worldwide orders firearms raffle to be shut down
I gave up on United Way about 30 years ago, when they dumped animal welfare causes and picked up gay advocacy. Abandoned domesticated animals die without help, but gays have on average a higher-than-median income; gays don't need my money to run propaganda while dogs are gassed because the shelter's out of money.
United Way at my then-workplace was essentially a protection racket. The company wanted employees to donate so that they could use that to promote the company, as though employee charity means that the company isn't screwing people over every day. They'd have at least annual drives to sign people up, it was easy to have a few bucks a week deducted. But if you wanted to STOP donating, you had to have a meeting with your divisional manager, who made it clear that this would be viewed in a negative light and as the sort of decision that could hurt a career.
Fuck that, that's not charity, that's not even decency.
United Way doesn't even do anything except pass the money along to whomever THEY like. If you want to donate to the NRA, cut a check to the NRA and mail it in. There's no point in handing $100 to UW so they can slice off some admin fees and forward $75 to the NRA...or at least, they TELL you that the money that's earmarked gets sent where you want it sent.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Re: United Way Worldwide orders firearms raffle to be shut down
When I worked at TI in the 1970s employee badges were more held in more importance than my military ID card was. They were colored, red, white, blue, silver, gold based on your years of employment, had to be displayed between your waist and shoulders, and forgetting it involved your supervisor (or his) coming to the guard shack and personally signing you into the building.
That said they were also a big pusher of the United Way and spent a lot of meeting time encouraging all employees to be Fair Share contributors and having 3% of their pay deducted and contributed. If one did that they got a pin to put on their badge signifying the fact that they did.NRA Life Member

My company will match private contributions to non-profits up to $500 yearly with proof of payment (cancelled check in my case) or will do matching funds for paycheck deductions with no limits.
If I want to donate to the NRA it will matched dollar for dollar, no administrative fees.
