Default Anyone know of a good book on building a stock?

I wasn't sure where to put this, so general seemed like a good idea. I have a hammer, a saw, and a screwdriver, so I am thinking about building a rifle stock this winter. I was wondering if anyone here might be able to point me toward a good book on the process of building one. Actual experience in reading said book, or even better, building a stock would be especially welcome.

    Thanks.

Here's one: "Checkering & Carving of Gunstocks" Book by Monty Kennedy, you can get it at MidwayUSA.

    Might also check here: www.huntingsociety.org/gunstocks.html

I also think that I heard that back in the late 30's that Ed McGivern wrote a book about making gun stocks.

Thanks for the links guys. Most of these books have to do with carving on the finished stock. I am looking for something that will give some guidance for letting in the barrel, trigger group, etc. Xringshooter, there are a lot of links on that page you found, so I am going to spend some time going through and see if there is a link or a reference to actually building one from scratch.

I did find one E-book for $9.95 or something that claims to be the best book for building stocks. So far it seems to be the only book on building stocks!

Pennsy, please let me know what you find as I am also looking to finish a blank I have. It's a nice walnut blank and I would hate to ruin it. Thanks.

Pennsy, shoot me a PM for my work address; I can send you a PDF of a decent textbook for the basics...

I will let you know. I've also got a real pretty piece of walnut that I bought a couple of years ago just for something like this that has been sitting in the shop waiting.

I'm pretty sure I have some other tools lying around too if I need them.

I've seen a few pics of those before. I honestly do think you could do a much better job with those 3 tools than I could do with all the tools in your shop.
