Re: Gun ranges
Hello and welcome!
I'm fairly new myself but have been to Classic Pistol in Southampton, Target World in Chalfont and French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixville. Not free though.
I've heard that State Game lands have some free ranges but never tried them. Check the threads and I'm sure you'll find something you like.
Good luck!

Re: Gun ranges
The state gamelands are free, but you get what you pay for. Use the search function on this site and read about other members' experiences. After reading some of those anecdotes, I joined a private rod & gun club.
I have shot at both Targetworld in Chalfont and French Creek Outfitters. Both locations are pistols only*. If you want to shoot rifles, you will need to go to an outdoor range. However, most outdoor ranges require a membership. For example...

http://www.ridgeandvalley.net
http://www.branchvalleyfgfassoc.org/
http://www.efga.net/
etc.
One of the exceptions being...
http://www.wicenshootingrange.com/
Wicens has an interesting business model. You need to qualify once, and after that its similar to the indoor ranges in that you only pay per visit instead of an annual membership.
Hope this helps.
* You can also use a rifle that shoots .22lr at these indoor ranges.

Re: Gun ranges
To the OP, it would help if you mention what type of shooting you'd like to do. Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun/Trap? Some ranges only cater to one or two, some have all.
State Game Lands web site

Some of them have shotgun ranges.
If you're shooting pistol, most of the game land ranges only have 50/100yrd ranges.
I have shot at both Targetworld in Chalfont and French Creek Outfitters. Both locations are pistols only*.

This is one of the cheapest indoor ranges around. $9/hr and $6 for additional shooter on the lane. They don't have a website.

Re: Gun ranges
I don't know about those, but some indoor ranges will let you shoot rifles that use pistol caliber ammo.

Re: Gun ranges
I've also been to Target World in Chalfont, and it's decent there. State gamelands do allow rifles and shotguns. The only public indoor range that I know of anywhere around that allows rifles is down at Targetmaster in Chadds Ford. They allow 223, but only if you buy the ammo there. I'm definitely looking at joining a club. The only downside is that I'm looking into a mobilization with the Navy sometime soon, and that's messing with what I want to do in my personal life.
