A gun is only as good as the person using it. If you've never shot a pistol before, I would be a little weary as .45 is a lot to try and handle your first time out. If you're used to shooting 9mm, .40, and .45 then it will be a great gun for you. I like the XD's a lot, but I don't own one. Go to the range, put a thousand or two rounds through it, and see if you like it...

I love mine...never had a single failure yet. What did you get? I have the XD45 4" compact. Easy to carry/conceal.

Re: I bought an springfield armory xd 45
My first semi auto and first anything larger than a .22 was a .45 acp. The XD45 is a nice gun. I've thoroughly enjoyed mine.

I have shot it and it is a very nice weapon. I could see it being a good long term gun for you, but I agree with Chazman in that a gun is only as good as its owner, and how well you handle it, and how comfortable it is to you.

Re: Opinons on xd 45?
In my humble opinion, a great, great gun. Completely reliable, point and shoot simplicity, digests even the crappiest ammo. Field strips easily, I'd trust my life on this gun. I'd dare say ( watch the fireworks now ), even better than any black Austrian pistol on the market. You made an ergonomically superior choice. Happy shooting.

Re: I bought an springfield armory xd 45
I have had an XD 40 SC for a few years now, and I have come to rely on it. It's never let me down, and I know it won't let me down. Normally, most people ask these type of questions BEFORE they purchase the firearm, but you just so happened to have made a good choice IMO.
Now the best course of action for you, is to practice and practice lots more! Get intimate and closely aquainted to your new gun, until it feels like nothing more than an extension of you're arm...good luck and enjoy!

It's a 45 5" tatical what's the big difference in a 45 gap and a 45 acp shell
