    Default Modifying a non-retention holster

I was curious about something. As an IT specialist, I spend a LOT of time working with my hands. As a result, I've learned to really enjoy modifying things to make them better or more functional.

I picked up a DeSantis holster for my P85, and it's just an open holster with a pouch. I was wondering if anyone else here has ever modified a non-retention holster to add a thumb-break strap to it?

I was thinking, I could go down to the local show repair shop and get a couple of strips of rubber, rivet them to the holster (or loop them through holes that I carefully cut into it with a soldering tool), and make a thumbbreak on top with a button.

What do y'all think about this?

InB4: go buy a real holster, don't mess with a good thing, etc etc.

PS. It's an ambidextrous holster, with a removable belt clip and a clip-bracket on both sides. It's occurred to me that, with a differently shaped belt clip that's a bit longer, I could easily switch the side the belt clip is attached to and turn this into a pretty comfortable conceal holster. Is it possible to buy these kinds of clips somewhere? With that and the modification mentioned above, this could be a nice, cheap, dual-purpose CC/OC retention holster...

Chemical - that is excellent, thank you very much! That second link is based relatively locally (I go to NJ for work periodically as well), so I sent them a message. I actually have a very specific design in mind for the clip I want, and if they get back to me and can manufacture it, I will be a VERY happy man.

That answers the second part of my question wonderfully, thanks a lot!
