Very cool. I've been in that same KFC OC a number of times and never had any trouble at all. Maybe a new employee or something. As usual you handled it quite well.

Just curious....I thought that area was handled by PSP Fogelsville. Was the officer you talked to one of the Regional guys that I occasionally see in the area?

My inclination is to not to go overboard in bashing other police in a formal letter to a police chief, lest the "thin blue line" attitude kick in.

I think this line is great, as well as the rest of the letter, but I really like this line. Kudos to another good encounter.

Bill, shame on you for calling attention to yourself! Were you doing cartwheels on your way to the table again? LOL! I am glad you had a positive encounter and it's great that you got to educate everyone at the same time. Your letter sounds great!

    My question is this:

If the officer obviously knew the law, and after speaking with the manager he told you it was OK to stay, why did you feel the need to remind him you weren't doing anything illegal? It almost seems you were trying to elicit a negative reponse from him. It seems smug IMO. If he was telling you open carry was illegal, it would be one thing, but he wasn't.

I am going to put my flame suit on now.

I have met Bill so I am just going to reply to the last post and say that maybe that would be true of someone else but having met him that is NOT his personality AT ALL. Maybe he was curious as to whether or not he should stop eating and get a brochure for the officer? Maybe he wanted to know that the officer KNEW the law and wasn't "assuming" the law? Do you have any idea just how many laws are in the crimes codes that officers are "supposed to know"? I am sure the officer didn't take offense to his asking nor did he think he was looking for a conflict either. Not flaming you. Just telling you as someone who has met Bill that is not his personality at all. I'll shut up now because I know only he can really know what was going through his mind when he asked.

    Almost kicked out of KFC!
KFC? You post that as if it's a bad thing.

Probably would have done you a favor if they did show you the door.

KFC is to chicken as MTV is to music.

Like SFN, I know Bill personally, and the last thing he would do is "elicit a negative response". No less be smug to an LEO.
But unlike the issue of soliciting a negative response, being "smug" is is largely an interpretation dependent on your position in an issue. As in the eye of the beholder. IMO, I think that there are those of you that are simply pre-disposed to believe that OC = looking for trouble and will pick apart any report like this for the smallest little thing you perceive as "wrong" or negative. I see it often. This appears to me to be no exception.

Lastly, consider also that the written word, as journaled here, is somewhat lacking in emotion and can not convey the tone of the actual discussion 100% accurately. Even with Pennsy's writing skills
