Agree. The Kvar stuff is great.

I thought about grabbing a set of used Romanian wood from there to fiddle with. (ha - fiddlin' with my wood) I really want to see if I can find a black stain that will still show the grain in the wood. Always wondered how that would look.

    imo polymer looks like crapola

there are so many different color variations for the wood furniture I would have a hard time believing you couldnt find one that didnt suit your tastes.

You can stain the wood in almost shade imaginable courtesy of Ritt Dye.

But anyway FWIW, if you want the modern look - such as a Russian S/folder AKM, you want to be in poly. The Eastern Bloc is pragmatic; they had a reason for switching to poly.

I like the look, feel, and yes - smell, of wood! On an AK it is traditional as well!
I am not a fan of thumbhole stocks.......

With the exception for a plum poly 5.45 AKMs with the matching plum mags; I agree on the traditional wood look. Plus its kinda hard to create a convincing Pak-ghani battlefield pickup replica in poly!

I shot a boat-load of WASR "PSL" thumbhole Romys before PG conversions and have grown to like them a lot for their handiness. No complaints here, especially after Demeling up the grip part to "make it your own".

In fact, I seen a pic on another board where someone did a fore-stock conversion to a basic WASR 22 AKM to resemble the big-boy Romy PSL 7.62x4R rifle - the visual effect (with the standard short WASR 22 mags) was literally a Romy PSL 7.62x4R "carbine". It looked pretty kewl.
Been thinking of doing the same thing to one of my WASRs and the left-over PSL butts - once I find a source for a cheap PSL fore-stock to hack.

Just found this ofthe fake PSL...

Personally, I like the wood. Last I saw Centerfire Systems had romanian wood sets for like $15. If you refinish them you can have a really nice looking stock set for next to no $$$.
Just be careful with the imported parts count. The 922(r) police might get you.
Removed NRA Life Member pic. LaPierre and Chris Cox are ruining NRA.

    Hecka big +1 on that.

My SLR-95 and my WASR both sport synthetic K-var furniture and have been through a few classes with no problems. The light weight will especially help on milled reciver AKs.
