Obviously not definitive but, this is what helped me choose the .380 Fiocchi Extrema XTP JHPs as my carry ammo.

The truth be told having a .380 is better than having nothing at all. If that's what you have that's what you have. There are people on this forum the promote .22lr for self defense. Neither of those two calibers would I consider for use to defend myself with for many reasons given a choice. Sometimes you just have to play the hand you are dealt.
