    I don't think it would fire, I think the bolt catch just releases.

    I can't remember the exact reason but something about if one was in the chamber and you dropped it it could fire. I have long moved out of Pa and now living in Arizona about 45 miles for Ruger's headquarters. I would still find out about the free upgrade. They sent me a real nice Ruger Hat for the trouble back then. I would buy it again but upgrade to a 9mm for more power
