If he had a motor vehicle in the parking lot, he was "arming" himself with at least one deadly weapon. Motor vehicle driven at/into the clerk puts him fearing for his life.
Too bad he didn't shoot the creep better while in the store....

As posted by some member above this clerk may have a world of problems due to his chasing the young hoodlum out of the store and firing at him while he was departing the scene.

    7-Eleven clerk shoots purported robber
    By Jason Cato

An Ingram convenience store clerk shot a would-be robber Christmas morning, then shot him again as he tried to flee, the store owners said.
The masked bandit walked into the 7-Eleven on West Prospect Avenue about 4:30 a.m., said Vicky Bawa, whose family has owned the business for about 12 years. The intruder brandished a knife, jumped the counter and attacked the clerk, said Bawa, 25, of Robinson.

The clerk, identified by Bawa as Kaelin Weber, 24, pulled out a handgun and fired.

Bawa, who was not in the store at the time, said at least one shot hit the robber inside the store. She did not know on what part of his body. The man ran from behind the counter, out the door and across the street, she said. The gun-wielding clerk gave chase.

Weber fired another shot and hit the suspect in the leg, said Bawa, recounting what the clerk and investigators told her.
"I'm hurt. Call the ambulance," said the suspect, who was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, North Side.

Weber, who suffered a cut on his hand, did not return calls for comment.

Weber was victimized during a previous robbery, though he was not armed during that encounter, Bawa said.

Bawa said she did not know he had a firearm at work. She said she was told he has a permit for the weapon.

A front window pane with a bullet hole was replaced, as was a glass front door shattered during the robbery attempt. Bawa said the business, which is usually open all day, every day, reopened about 9 a.m. yesterday.

Ingram and Allegheny County Police responded to the shooting. Police seized the clerk's gun and a tape from the store's surveillance system, Bawa said.

Ingram police Chief John Doherty and county homicide investigators did not return repeated telephone calls.

I really hope he is able to get away on this one. It looks grim, with him chasing him outside the store. The leg shot kept him from going anywhere, at least.

I think the clerk did a wonderful job! If every clerk carried, we'd have a lot less robberies. Kudos to him. Hopefully they'll rule that he tried to detain him, and let him go. The leg shot goes in favor of that (the jury most likely won't know how hard a shot it would be).

This clearly shows that store clerk - Mr Kaelin Weber should have spent more time at the range, horning his shooting skills.

If he shot AND killed the thug with one shot, while thug was in the store, then he would have been in the clear no?

Instead, he had to chace the thug in to parking lot.
