H.R. 6257 was introduced by Mark Kirk [R IL-10] on June 12, 2008 and seeks to re-instate the Assault Weapons Ban for a period of ten years, as well as to expand the list of banned weapons. The bill was also referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on 7/28/08. It has four co-sponsors (as of November 5, 2008) supporting it:

    Rep Castle, Michael N. - [R DE-1] - 6/12/2008
    Rep Ferguson, Mike - [R NJ-7] - 6/12/2008
    Rep Ros-Lehtinen, Ileana - [R FL-18] - 6/18/2008
    Rep Shays, Christopher - [R CT-4] - 6/12/2008

Those are big R(s) there. The cliche` "the Dems will take your guns" does not hold up in this case. I am fed up with all of them, and I am a Republican Committee Member. None of them give a shit about individual rights. It is infuriating and maddening all at the same time!!!

Be safe (and respect the individual).

I could be wrong but haven't most of the major gun control bills been signed into law by Republican presidents? (with the exception of the AWB fo 1994).

It isn't a R vs D, its a "We want your votes and the votes in my area are going to gun control or the votes in my area are going against gun control".

Statistically its been proven that the D's represent urban locations and the R's represent the rural and non-urban area's. The reason that the D's appear to be more anti-gun is because the cities are more violent and have more gun crime, so blasting guns is a positive, in the rural area's gun crime is less frequent so slamming guns = slamming hunting = bad.

An R in an urban area will typically do the exact same thing as a D in the same area, when in rome...

Its not a D/R its a Urban vs Rural, and Urban typically has a lot more voting power
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

No, it's more on par with voting for Obama, then coming on this website and telling the true Americans that "Now that he is president, we have to stick together."

Actually, If I remember correctly, a generation is 20 years.

Studies show that these gun bans and laws only hurt law abiding gun hobbyist (hunters, collecters, or those that seek self protection). The criminals are always going to find a way, because they don’t abide by the laws.

Or that gun control exists independently of party lines, and the NRA's ploy to pit "pro-gun" versus "anti-gun" candidates has failed. As I've said before, we need to make gun owners' rights a bipartisan issue. And alienating Democrats at every opportunity does nothing to further that. Abrasive and juvenile comments like post #22 make me question whether I should support gun owners' rights.

Just kidding about self-doubt in my committment to gun owners' rights. One, one thousand, or one million imbecilic gun owners don't change the significance and importance of the Second Amendment as originally intended.

Not trying to start an argument here but I think that the bottom line of a lot of gun owners is that the Democrat party retains so much anti-gun, anti-2A language in their party platform that they feel there is virtually no chance of changing the direction of that party. If you look at the national level there are no pro-2A, pro-gun leaders in the Dem party. Until such time as people see changes at that level they will feel that they have no partners within the party and so... Just my $.02
