I don't agree with this, and I applaud the office actually providing storage without a fuss. Doctor's offices many times have ambulances arrive to take people to the hospital with serious issues that cropped up during their time at the private practice. If this were to happen with the OP and he had his firearm with him, we've already heard that some ambulance crews will wait for the police to arrive to seize the firearm.

In this case, that isn't an issue. It's locked in a box safe until the person would return for it. I think it's a good solution and I actually cannot believe a Doctor's office is providing it.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've been called to a medical office for a legitimate, life-or-death emergency. Too often, the reason the office called an ambulance is because they feel it reduces their liability, rather than having you get back in your car and be driven to the hospital.

Even so - in that case, then you're going out to the hospital, leaving your gun on their site - and in their control. That thought concerns me.
