Good for you. I hope he takes your advice. The problem with pan handlers is that they rarely use for food. If they are near a food establishment, I tell them I will buy them something to eat. Most do not take me up on it. There is a guy near a Schuykill Expressway Ramp that has a sign * I will tell you a joke for a dollar* I always give him a dollar and listen to his joke. I figure he is earning it.

Once upon a time, yeah. Today, no. If you're gonna get murdered, don't do it near me.

I carry a Louisville Slugger in the car... for 'softball' you know.
If I ever happened upon someone being attacked by a pit bull, I'd stop and 'render assistance'.

Re: To intervene or to Not intervene, that is the question...
Watched the video. My summary is as follows:
1). McDonald's customer got loud with employees. "Nice guy" bystander decided to try to "calm everyone down", got shot dead. Oops!!!!
2). They gave lots of reasons NOT to get involved in someone else's drama. They didn't give a single reason to get involved.
3). They didn't come right out and say it, but it was clear that, from a legal standpoint, you shouldn't get involved in someone else's drama if you can at all help it.
4). If you do decide to get involved, know that you risk EVERYTHING.
In short, from a legal standpoint, it's just plain dumb to get involved and throw yourself at the mercy of "the system".
Additional commentary:
Why in the fuck anyone would decide to get involved with a customer yelling at fast food employees defies all comprehension. MYOFB!!!! I bet the victim's family sure wishes the victim did.
