Re: thinking of going back to school?
Ironically , the wife also wants to go back to school , for veterinary medicine , but she wants to go the full boat and become a licensed vet .
She's waiting till the baby is born and we move over to Lancaster before she starts , so it will be this time next year at the earliest . I even made sure she understood she was talking about almost 6 years of school . She wants it , so I have to support her .Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: thinking of going back to school?
I enjoy going to my Vet. He has some of the cutest Vet techs you ever saw.
All in their early twenties and pretty.

Re: thinking of going back to school?
One way to start is by volunteering at a vet hospital. This is what my niece did and she's now working for the same vet. She hasn't gone to vet school yet cause they are really hard to get in to.
See my last statement from above. If your wife wants to go to vet school she should be applying now for next years sessions.

Re: thinking of going back to school?
Just remember: don't go to school to get a job - go to school to get an education.
Huge difference.
Best wishes!

Re: thinking of going back to school?
I don't know where you currently work but a huge number of employers will help pay for education... it normally needs to be in line with how you can advance within the company.
so take all the gen eds and related courses under a major that the company will pay for, then change
btw - you can make more then 10.00 an hour just about anywhere, and paying back 10k+ in loans to get a job making < 25k a year is just setting yourself up for failure long term unless your boyfriend is making good money.
Also its not a very "high in demand" job as far as I know. Most vets only have a few assistants and there aren't that many vets out there.
If you are looking at going back to school the hot item right now is Nursing, at all levels and its not going to go away as everyone gets older and needs more nursing care... and you can make a lot of money at all stages. The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: thinking of going back to school?
If it is truly something you want to do focus on how you "can" do it, instead of focusing on the "obstacles" preventing you from doing it. Obstacles will always be there, but if it is something you really want you need to make it happen.
Before considering your final decision I agree with the poster that recommended volunteering first. Volunteering will give you a good idea if it is something you want to set as a long term goal.
Whatever your decision, BEST LUCK to you!!!!!Μολών λαβέ

Re: thinking of going back to school?
Great point, there are a lot of shelters out there that will leap at the opportunity to have a personal around to help them... and you'll be doing just about the same thing (other then the lab tests / results).
Also, don't forget that while vets do help lots of dogs and kitties get better they also put a LOT of them down... make sure you can handle that. Not much worse then seeing a 10 year old kid crying his eyes out as his best friend gets put downThe first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Re: thinking of going back to school?
yes you can get student loans, they are not as high interest as a car loan or loan for a house . try a PHEA loan(PA Higher Education) student loan.and you can pay on them as much as you prefer as low as you want when you graduate ,you get to set the payment plan not them you can do it, i been there its not that hard if you take the time to read, focus and study you can make it thru.i went to NTID for 1 year then i transferred to RIT in Rochester NY back in 1994,i dropped out cuz of women problems....
