Re: Apostrophes changing to asterisks
So, why does it display apostrophes ok if I preview the post before posting it but shows asterisks if I just post without previewing? And why didn’t it do it at all a few years ago before the upgrade. And why doesn’t it happen on any other forum site or any non-forum site for that matter? I k ow I might sound argumentative but I don’t mean to be. Just asking questions.
I haven’t cared about it much in a long time but I guess I just saw one too many asterisks the other day and I figured I’d ask. Seems like it happens to others on similar devices but does it happen to everyone on an iPhone or android? Because if it doesn’t happen to everyone using these devices and only happens to some then that doesn’t make sense. If it’s a problem with the device’s processor and there are others using the same processors then I’d think it should happen to everyone using one of those processors.

Re: Apostrophes changing to asterisks
The bigger issue is using apostrophe's to make possessive's into plural's.
It hurt to type that.

Re: Apostrophes changing to asterisks
It is because the database for this website doesn't use modern Unicode character encoding for the tables used to store messages.
The only permanent fix is to update the database to use that encoding.
You can avoid it by turning off smart punctuation on your device as previously noted.
However, if you copy/paste from an article that uses smart punctuation, you'll get the asterisks and such because you've pasted in Unicode from a website, not using characters actually generated on your device.
