Every fight is life threatening. You can die from a single punch, or be seriously injured.

The standard on using lethal force isn't whether or not it is life threatening, btw. It is if you believe you will be seriously injured.

All I need is my cell phone - 911 on speed dial.

Really, got a 45 over there, and when I am out and about a BUG back there, some bear spritzer over here, and a spare mag and couple of speed strips down there.

I carry several things besides a gun on a daily basis, that I would call complementary tools.
I carry; a very small Streamlight, an SOG Flash 1, a phone, and some cash (not in my wallet).
I would'nt call any of them defensive tools.
My brain is my primary defensive tool.
My gun, fist/feet/elbows/knees, and any found object capable of blunt force trauma are my secondary defensive tools (depending on circumstances).

Let's face it... I carry a gun because it is an effective and easy to use (now that I have had years of training using it) defensive tool.
But it is just that; a tool.
It's not even a tool I can count on having at all times because of the backward (and unconstitutional) laws on the carriage of a firearm.
It serves no purpose greater than to be an impliment of my brain, and I can think of several circumstances where it is not going to be my "go to" defensive tool.

Every additional weapon a person carries opens up the opportunity for an array of problematic questions to be be posed by a DA in the event that you ever use your primary weapon.

The lowest level in the force continuum is, 'show of force.' 'Show of force' is a practical and justifable application that a sidearm can be used for.

Furthermore, I dont want to be faced with a complicated situation that requires 'some' level of force, then get stuck sorting through whether I want to use the OC, the gun, the knife, the taser, the black-jack, the night-stick, the brass-knuckles or the tactical nuke. I can cover all the relevant bases with one tool, so I'll avoid a decision process that could cost me my life and stick with one tool that can be appropriately used for any situation I can reasonably expect to face.
