I'd go with the AK; the're cheap, plentiful, accurate enough and they are grunt proof. When I was in we had the M16-A1 and you could not keep them clean enough in the field.

For a sidearm, I would choose the Springfield XD .45.

M14 action type as the basic rifle in a 7mm cal. ballistically equal to 7X57. The rifle should be lightened by using a polymer stock and lighter high-strength metal alloys in barrel and action.

Sidearm, S&W M&P in cal. .40 S&W, to hell with NATO standardization!

As to the standard rifle and pistol I can agree to the Colt M16A2 and the Glock or the Springfiel XD

but for light infantry or door to door(urban) warfare
I would like to see the Kriss and the AA 12

Why would you want to replace a proven CQB rifle like the M4 with two unproven weapons that can't defeat soft body armour?

M14 and a .45 -- These are the Tools we should Live By.

As for CQB - Maybe a SoCom or stick with the M4 -- But then we get into Ammo logistics with the M4.

Rifle.....The FN FAL as originally configured in .280...(7mmX43) decent performer, better than .223....lighter load out than .308. Very easy field maintenance/cleaning and battle proven durability and reliability.

Pistol.....any of the solid 1911 variants in .45...partial to Springfield offerings myself.

Ever run an M14 through a CQB course??? This weapon is great for certain things, but doesn't do well in a lot of the environments that we will be finding ourself in (house to house clearing).
