Allentown is the 3rd biggest city in PA. All the realities of atown aside, the sheer size and population should be enough to make you pack a little more, especially if you're from out in the sticks like I am.

...NJ cops will say "no", but they'd have an uphill battle if your unloaded gun was in a locked safe that they busted open with a pry bar after a warrantless search......

The problem is not likely to arise in this kind of scenario. I've been driving around in NJ for over 2 years now, including a year driving back and forth between PA and my job in NJ, and I have never once come close to a situation where I thought a cop might want to check me out for a gun.

You're vastly more likely to get into trouble in a situation like the OP described, where you make it known to your would-be attacker that you have a firearm, but someone else sees it and reports you.

You can say that the hassle/legal trouble is better than dying, but 9 times out of 10 the situation will probably dissolve itself without the presence of a firearm, just like it did for the OP. That's 9 chances to get jacked up by the law for no good reason for every one where it actually would have mattered. Then there's the possibility of you getting into a bad car accident where your gun is discovered, etc...

And yes, just like 74.567% of all statistics, mine were made up. You can choose your own number and decide whether it's worth taking the chance.

NJ cops are incredible profilers. I had a steel your face skull and a deadhead plate on my tractor and noticed when I took them off my random inspections and other second looks seemed to stop. I ended up going stealth. made my trucks look like company with no extra lights, stickers or chrome. Didn`t have a random in 12 years.
NJ is famous for releasing you from a stop and then coming back and saying by the was "you don`t have any weapons or drugs" do you? Say yes and you`re screwed but say no and you wait for the dogs.

In the OP`s situation being aware, make a right don`t force the left. I appears you were being baited. Because of the various medical tests I had to have at Sacred Heart and the times I wound up in that area at night a number of times.

from the description, it sounds as if this could have very easily been time #10 had he been stuck at the red light long enough, since the driver got out. then again, maybe they were trying to get him to produce a gun so they could report him or something, who knows.

I hate the feeling of being aware that something bad is about to happen, and not beign armed. It's one of the worst.

Just imagine how many people in this area have that happen to the meveryday, and are unarmed. How can they not want to have some protection? Beyond me.
