I can't help with your problem, I just wanted to add that when I start my mower, a big, black cloud of smoke blows out the exhaust.

I don't know for sure, but I think my mower is sending the big, "one finger salute" to the enviro-weenies in the form of smoke signals.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

My old one did that too, and finished up with a big cannon boom back fire when I was done, just in case anyone missed the bellows of smoke.
You are a straight white man. You don't get to be the victim, sweetie.

I'd say leave it sit flat for a couple hours and then run it. It should stop smoking after a few minutes. If it does not, then you may have a bad gasket.

    That's funny.

My buddy had a lawnmower that he put "stacks" on. He used iron plumbing pipe in place of the muffler, and split it into duals. That thing was so F'n loud you couldn't run the thing without plugs AND muffs. The neighbors ran in fear when he took it out of the garage.

Dude...let me guess......you tilted it so the air filter was down, what you have done is put oil into the crankcase, and the air filter. Remove the air filter, should be 1 screw, right side of mower square cover. My bet is it is oil soaked, get a new one, you cannot clean it.....after that check the oil in the machine, make sure it's right.....then run the machine for a while, it will clear up. see this all the time.......

The thing that will cause a head gasket to blow, if that's what it is is usually a mouse nest in the blower housing. Normally it will smoke directly out of the engine, not the muffler....

Yours sounds like dirt in the fuel, cleaning the carb will probably do it wonders.
90% of the repairs we see are bad fuel, and other operator related causes

You can tilt the mower, just not so the air filter is down......

    Hope this helps!

Please don't diagnose my problem. I like the smoke.
(and if I could, I'd run over baby seals with it)
