Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
What if your a solider in iraq and you collect firearms, then they get stolen. I doubt that you would be able to report it within 72 hours. Same thing if you're out of town or camping.

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
I would report a stolen gun as soon as I realized it was missing. Why wouldn't someone do that? I don't see a problem with it. It's all part of being a law abiding, responsible, citizen.

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
I am totally against a law that would criminalize the victim of a theft. Just as gun laws that attack the tool and not the criminal, this proposed law ignores the source of the problem.

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
All the laws that crop up about this are written the same:
Must be reported within xx hours of discovery of theft.
If you go away for a 2 week vacation and come home to a kicked in door and looted home, your time begins then even if the break in occurs 5 minutes after you go on vacation.
And considering you would file a police report in that situation, why wouldn't people report a stolen gun right away anyhow?

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
This proposed law would be unenforceable against the target people - straw purchasers, due to self incrimination.
So, if you think about it, you'll see it is a bad law. ONLY people that forget or don't know of the law can be prosecuted. NOT the straw purchasers (which is already illegal).
Amazing to see how many people support bad legislation. Please read up on these things and then call your legislators and urge them to opose BS laws like this one.

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
What about this one. Your nephew comes into your house while visiting you and takes a pistol you have. Or maybe a friend of your sons or daughter that seen your gun collection, helps himself when no one is looking. Either way, Your not aware that it is gone. Two days later it turns up having been used in a crime.
The police show up at your door. Is telling the police that you didn't know it was missing going to cover your butt? You had XX amount of time to report it.The American Revolution would never have happened with gun control....

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
I also clicked I wouldn't mind, but after reading some responses, I think some of you guys make a few good points. While I realize gun collections sizes are different from person to person, I believe you should have unattended firearms locked up. I have a 7 year old and that may weigh on my thoughts however it is what it is. Just for the record, I would report any lost or stolen guns when I noticed. If you can afford and gun, you should be able to afford a safe.

Re: Poll on "Reporting lost or stolen firearms"
I voted "I dont have a problem with this" but change my mind after reading further about it. I didn't realize that you would face criminal penalties for not reporting the gun stolen in time. That's totally absurd.
It's your property. If you lose your property, it's up to you to file a report or not. Most responsible gun owners would report the loss to protect themselves, but it should not be required by law. It's no different than losing any other property, e.g., a shoe, a dog, a car, etc. Next up.... going to jail for not reporting the loss of a shoe because it could be turned into a shoe bomb!
