Re: Scared people causing me problems at home.
Let's face it. You just scared the sheep.
Anyone with a rifle/handgun is an evil SOB and you better barricade the doors and give your wife and daughters their cyanide pills.
Give me a fucking break already. These assholes are just as bad as the jerk off who called the cops on Mtn Jack except they thought they had a better chance of getting you evicted by going straight to the management authority and making up some terrifying story.

I agree with most of what has been said here. I also see the owners point in contacting you based on the complaints forwarded to him, that said I get the take that he has no real problem with it.
In an apartment setting there will always be people who do not see things the way they are and put more into it.
I would have thought it would have made them feel safer knowing you were living there.
You did a great job in your responses to the calls.
God Bless you and Keep you Safe and thank you for serving us all.

Re: Scared people causing me problems at home.
In your first post, you stated that you were open carrying your sig and had soft cases slung over your back.
Again, nothing wrong with any of that - but to me it isn't too smart being in an apt. complex. I will completely agree that there is nothing wrong with anything you did. I just wouldn't draw that much attention to myself due to your living situation.
I'd suggest that you get yourself some non standard gun bags. Maybe a pool stick bag or a tennis bag, a luggage bag - anything that doesn't scream gun.
Again, i want to be clear - there wasn't anything wrong with what you did and there should not have been any incident for your actions - it was silly that they got scared.
My point is that i'd try to be a little more discrete when you have so many neighbors. Not because they got scared but because you don't want word getting out that your house has guns - then your guns could become a target for theft when you are away from home.Last edited by Guns4Fun; August 3rd, 2009 at 11:57 AM.

Re: Scared people causing me problems at home.
I open carry in my complex all the time and they could throw me out. If they did I'd finally find the motivation to buy a house or find a better apartment. They keep wanting me to sign a lease renewal every three months as well as a modification to the apartment contract AND they constantly ask for my renters insurance policy. I tell them to let me know when they want me to vacate because I'm not paying a lawyer to review their changes to the lease agreement and if they want they can call my insurance agent. I have been living without a lease for three years! I like this line... "you know all you have to do is give me two months written notice to vacate". They never take me up on the offer 6 years later. Guess a 100% consistent on time payment record (except for when THEY lost my check) and a relatively clean tenant is preferred over the bureaucratic BS, at least for now..
I always inform them that the place across the street has apartments for the same price with a pool and a garage! They tend to shut up immediately. This last time I told them I'll never answer the phone again if I see their caller ID and if the message is related to any of that non-sense I won't return their call so don't bother just send me a certified letter to vacate.
Amazing how they never contacted me again.
If I had neighbors I thought would even remotely break into my apartment to steal my guns I'd leave. Why would anyone want to live in a place like that? granted there might be a time when I'm stuck in a situation like that, if that happened I'd CC around the apartment or probably just install a security system.Last edited by whoshisface; August 3rd, 2009 at 12:24 PM.

Re: Scared people causing me problems at home.
As long as you are doing nothing illegal and it seems the aprtment manager is cool with you doing this, then don't worry about it. You cannot expect or be expected to go into stealth mode every time you want to take your guns out for a day of shooting. If they're cased, and you are not going about anything in a threatening way, and someone gets "scared", well that's too freakin bad. They can get over it!
I live in a single home, and I don't advertize that I own guns, however I don't wait till the cover of darkness or hide in the garage to load up my truck either. Sure, I don't want to set myself up for a robbery, but I refuse to live my life in the shadows because of what I choose to do for enjoyment. If one of my neighbors were to see my gun case and get scared, again, they can get a grip and get over it!
Do your thing and don't give a second thought. If granny gets her panties in a knot, tough shit!

Your average private landlord can do anything that's not banned by statute, so he can't exclude blacks or the handicapped or people on Welfare, but he can exclude kilts and guns and microwave ovens and books written by Franz Kafka, if he wants to.
