Re: How to be less shaky in high adrenaline situations
This is how Inspector Clouseau was always so cool under pressure, he had Cato attack him at random times.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Train and spar martial arts.
Train and spar the various long gun/ pistol disciplines.
Take up hunting.
There are loads of books and training classes that cover the subject of fighting under the influence of adrenalin.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Train with a timer, go to various pistol competitions. Adrenaline dumps like a USPSA or IDPA match can help. Your shooting under a timed and scored event. Might help out a bit getting used to it.
After 3 years of limited event shooting i dont get nearly the dump as i did when i first started.www.Steelvalleycasting.com is your new home for coated bullets and custom ammo.

Re: How to be less shaky in high adrenaline situations
Long gun is a good idea. But if you're going cheap shotgun (that is good enough for HD) it will be a pump. That will take a good amount of practice because the most common malfunction with a pump (and many firearms, frankly) is user error. But a Mossberg 590 is a good start.
I agree with competitions to gain confidence and proficiency.
Also make a plan and practice it. Have your wife say a code word that puts you into action, randomly. Obviously what you do exactly is situation dependent. Do any kids need to be retrieved or can you hunker down with a blaster and call the cops?
