Anything over 7" is preferred because I'd rather not have the muzzle device start RIGHT at the end or the handguard.
"Tucked inside" - even just a little would be acceptable and they YHM and Troy both being just a smidge over 7" should work if I can't find an 8".

All of the 8s I saw were too slim for your set up.
Shame too, SLR Rifleworks and some other make some nice rails.

The big issue with cutting, is finding a rail with enough structure at the new cut line.

Yeah, I was all set to buy from REC once he got another shipment, but the Aero 9" handguard is too long.
Check out the photo above with the tape measure next to the barrel.

Really glad I waited until I had the muzzle device so I could thread it on and get an actual overall barrel/comp length because I'd have been stuck holding a handguard that was too long.

Oh shit. I forgot they make a 7".
It's hard to keep track of who makes what.

7" MAY work. I just think the ones that are just a tad longer than 7 will assure the look I'm going for.

This is an Aero "enhanced" upper combination with an 8.3" Hansen .300BO barrel (no flash suppressor attached because it's going to be one of my hosts for an incoming suppressor, not to mention also waiting on a Form 1). The inside diameter is just over 1 5/8".

After this and the 9mm carbine, I'm ready to build a 9mm pistol next. No more money though!

Here's the Pic thread for my AR pistol.


It's now wearing a Primary Arms micro red dot that I stole off my other carbine.
Next summer I'd like to get a better quality red dot for it since this is going to be one of my "serious" guns.
I also just added a Frank Proctor sling that I snagged for $20 shipped.
