Re: S&W MODEL 68-1 357
Are you sure it's not a 681. The model 68 was a 6" M66 made for the CA Highway patrol in 38 spl.
Is it fixed sights?

Looking at it now, it says 68-1, the paperwork from purchase says the same.

Re: S&W MODEL 68-1 357
maybe its this from the spec...being the fixed sight and barrel length and the calibre.

Re: S&W MODEL 68-1 357
has to be a 681.
the book says a m68 has adjustable sights, but more importantly the 68-1 has been reported, but none have ever been seen. also as stated it was only available as a 38spl with a 6" barrel. they were marked "CHP" on the left side, after being sold it was over stamped "OHB".
i bet your piece has a full length underlug on the barrel?
eta:
the authors of the book have reported seeing a model 681 being stamped "Mod 68-1".Last edited by brian; November 26th, 2009 at 02:39 PM.
