60 Minutes segment on Afghan war

Really interesting with footage of a fire-fight in a corn field.
One of the troops got hit in the shoulder but it "passed right through." I guess he got hit with 5.45 and it didn't hit any bone?

Re: 60 Minutes segment on Afghan war
AK-74
The weapon fires a 5.45 × 39 mm round with a muzzle velocity of 900 m/s. Muzzle energy is 1.39 kilojoules, giving an effective range of around 500 m. Cartridge weight is 10.75 g. Projectile weight is 3.42 g. The new cartridge was designed to give greater effective range, less recoil, and a flatter trajectory than the 7.62 x 39 mm. The 5.45 mm bullet yaws when striking a soft target such as a human causing it to tumble. This tumbling creates a larger wound in the target than the bullet's diameter.

The Uncle is right on with his facts. And I must add, that just about every bullet changes course or "tumbles" when it strikes anything other then air. It is a myth that heavy larger bullets fly true(r). Even the fat 45-70 will "tumble" after hitting light foliage.
A 7.62 round will do little damage if it does not hit anything vital or a bone.

Don't know about tumbling, but it will be thrown off course.
